Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Collaboracon?
Yes. Basically a combination of the words 'collaboration' and 'contest'. Well, if it had been an icon contest only, it could've been 'CollaborIcon'. Haha.
  2. What's Collaboracon about?
Collaboracon is a chance for you to make graphics with someone else, who may have a totally different design style to you. It's meant to be a fun contest that anyone can enter, regardless of style or skill (however, we want to make sure that contestants are capable of making graphics - no MS Paint allowed).
  3. How does it work?
After applying, you will be paired up with another designer to collaborate with. We will give you your partner's email address, and you can take it from there.
  4. How do you 'collaborate' with another designer?
There are any number of ways to make a graphic with someone else. For example, one person can choose the image to use, and specify resources, and the other person can combine them, or both people could take turns adding little details to the graphic, etc etc. It's up to you.
Of course, it really helps if you can communicate with your collab partner in real time, such as on MSN. That way you can discuss the project together. It also helps if you share the same graphics program . . . but there are ways around that.
  5. How do I enter?
Read the rules and round information first, then go along to the sign up page.
  6. How many times can I signup/enter?
You only need to sign up once per round. After you sign up, you will be paired up, and you and your collab partner can make however many entries are required for the particular round.
  7. Can I just submit a graphic by myself?
No. That defeats the whole purpose of collaborating.
However, if your collab partner decides to drop out of the contest partway through, you are free to make your entry by yourself, how ever you want to. This does not mean that you are allowed to bully your partner into forfeiting the contest.
  8. When are the graphics due?
By the due date stated on the round information page. If any pair does not submit their entry by the due date, they may be disqualified.
  9. How will the contest be judged?
Probably by Elisa and Yoshi, though we may ask some of our friends to help as well. Usually, we have long discussions about who we think should win and why, and make sure that judging is somewhat fair. There is also a People's Choice award, which is decided by open voting.
  10. What are the prizes, and how are they divided?
Heh. WE ARE POOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS with no money and no PayPal accounts. So there will only be a limited number of prizes, probably donated by our benefactors.
As to the division of prizes, each member of the winning pair(s) will get equal prizes, depending on their place in the contest.
